Moving Minds

Wednesdays at DanceEast, Jerwood DanceHouse, Foundry Lane, Ipswich

Run in association with DanceEast, Moving Minds is open to anyone over 18 who feels drawn to the idea of creative dance and movement to support their well-being and mental health.

Suitable for beginners and improvers alike, the sessions aim to inspire members to move more freely, rhythmically and expressively, both individually and with others in the group.

The workshops are led by Samantha Moss, an experienced DanceEast dance artist, who has been leading dance and well-being classes for many years.

We aim to create a safe and supportive space to give members the freedom to express themselves while having fun. There is no pressure on anyone to ‘perform’ with members encouraged to progress at their own pace and physical ability.

Recovery College – Creativity for Wellbeing

Currently Online via Zoom

This two-week course, produced in partnership with Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust, explored how creativity can be beneficial for recovery and was delivered by Inside Out Community Programme Leader, Allan Williams.

The two 90-minute sessions helped members explore how taking part in artistic activities can aid personal recovery and wellbeing. The workshops also looked at some of the opportunities that are available for people who are interested in the therapeutic arts.

No previous arts experience was necessary to take part.

The course was created as part of The Recovery College programme who provide free educational workshops and courses to help people experiencing mental health challenges invest in their own wellbeing and recovery.

Write Minds

Our creative writing group was open to people of all levels and abilities. Members explored a wide variety of writing genres such as short stories, life writing, myth and legend, poetry, and spoken word among many others.

These 10-week courses offered members the chance to hone their creative writing skills and express themselves in a supportive, safe, and friendly environment.

The standard of work produced was exceptional. After each course, we published a booklet of work, leading to the publication of Write Mind’s first anthology: Glimpses of Infinity.

Creative Mentoring

Programme now completed

Creative mentoring was an offshoot of the Inside Out Community programme, offering one-to-one creative sessions for members who could not attend the community groups for a variety of reasons.

These ranged from social anxiety or physical disability to mental health challenges and feeling overwhelmed in a group setting.

In a bid to overcome this potential barrier, an artist or other creative mentor would work with the member in their own home, or other suitable venue, on a creative project of their choice which may involve various art forms.

Ten one-to-one sessions were offered, with the option for participants to attend one of our weekly workshop groups in the future.
